In My Body Ft. The Authentic Woman Book Vol. 1 - My Relationship With My Body
A while ago, my friend Ashton from The Authentic Woman (previously known as Altogether Beautiful) invited me to be a contributor for her beautiful interactive book series.
Naturally, I said yes.
But I would be lying if I didn't say I was a little nervous.
It's one thing to talk and write about something on my own blog (which was still something I had to work through), but to share my voice on someone else's platform?
I've always loved reading growing up; I was the 5 year old who always brought her book into a restaurant with her. But writing? Ummm, no thank you.
I know, I know.
I'm always saying how important it is to use your voice and share your stories.
And after reading some of the other pieces in there, it truly is important.
A bit of context - The Authentic Woman Vol. 1: Beauty
The foundation of The Authentic Woman rests on the known identity of beauty within each of us. The Authentic Woman actively pursues the transformation and re- defining of beauty in the earth. It is our goal to see beauty return to its original state and to be conveyed this way through all mediums. It is personal. It is for our sisters, mothers, children, friends, and ourselves. We are not afraid to challenge the standard. We want to tackle it straight on.
This is why the first volume of The Authentic Woman is all about beauty. What is it? What does it look like to live in it? What does it look like to grab hold of this identity? How can we challenge the standard? What does it mean? How has the world twisted the definition? What does beauty look like after motherhood? What does it look like in your career? Every story needs to be expressed. The world needs to hear it.
This morning, I finally read my own piece.
It's called "The Real Deal About My Relationship With My Body".
You know how they say we often give the advice we need the most?
That was how I felt, and I felt proud. I'm not normally the type of person to feel proud of herself, but it made me realize how far I've come with my life.
How I've stopped giving my power away so easily.
How I've stopped letting other people define success and beauty.
How, instead, I chose to be my own person and have my own adventures.
Even if sometimes it doesn't turn out the way I'd hoped.
But this body? It's mine.
It'll always be mine and never anyone else's again.
But if you had told my 8 year old self that, I would've thought you were crrrrrrrazy.
We live in a society that's constantly trying to make you into something you're not, pushing you in a direction you don't want to go, and telling you there's a one size fits all.
And that if you don't fit, then there's something wrong with you.
There's not, and I hope you know that.
I'm so proud of my friend Ashton and what she's created!!
It's absolutely amazing to see how much she's grown and accomplished in 2017.
Ashton, if you're reading this, I just wanted to say I'm so freakin' proud of you and that I'm so grateful to call you my friend. And I can't wait to see what you have in store for 2018 because I bet it's going to be amazing. (No pressure or anything. ;))
And thanks again for letting me be part of your first volume!!
